Moldovan president hands distinctions to group of citizens

President Nicolae Timofti today handed state distinctions to a group of citizens.

Also, at the ceremony, the Moldovan president gave a speech on the occasion of the National Flag Day.

The head of state said that the “today’s solemnity has a special significance, as it is held on Moldova’s Tricolor Day.”

The Tricolour was officially designated as State Flag of Moldova on 27 April 1990 by MPs of the first parliament, known as the Independence Parliament, as Tricolor is the symbol of our national vitality and dignity.

The period we are going through is not easy at all. We are facing economic, social, political challenges. Yet, in these circumstances, we cannot but appreciate at its true value the merits of those who bring their contribution to the strengthening of our state, its economic, social and spiritual flourishing.

The participants in the Chernobyl accident relief works, who 30 years ago, with much courage, contributed to the diminution of the effects of this merciless calamity, are present in this hall today as well.

Only with the effort of the entire society, no matter the social, political and ethnic  affiliation of its members, regardless of education and age, we will be able to ensure further development of the society, improving the living standards of our citizens. I believe that we will succeed only together, by turning to account our physical, moral and intellectual potential, acting in an atmosphere of mutual trust and exigency, high responsibility,” President Nicolae Timofti added.
