President Nicolae Timofti received Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) Sergiu Cioclea at the State Residence today. The discussions were focused on the dynamic of the inflation and measures undertaken by BNM to improve stability of the financial system, as well as on the diminution of the basic rate applied on the principal operations of monetary policy.
The head of state stressed the fact of the governor taking over the mandate against a background of an unprecedented crisis for Moldova. At the same time, the president specified that the new governor would have to cope with all requirements of an economic climate that was continuously changing.
For his part, the BNM governor gave assurances that the National Bank would monitor and anticipate the domestic developments and the ones from the international economic environment, including the monetary indexes and the ones of the currency market, in order to ensure the maintenance of prices’ stability through flexibility of the operational framework. Sergiu Cioclea also said that he wanted to modernize the banking system and directly contribute to the development and stability of the national economy.
The meeting of the Moldovan president with the National Bank’s governor comes in the context of Sergiu Cioclea taking over the concerned office starting from 11 April.
